A. This is the most common first question asked by our couples, and it's a good one. Both Jen and Jenna capture images with a natural, fresh, and relaxed style. We take a 'lifestyle' approach to capture you at your best. We're kind to your guests, and not demanding. We appreciate a wedding for the important, emotional day that it is, and never interfere with that. And most importantly, our style is a reflection of your happiness on your wedding day. 

Q. What is your style?

Q. HOW DO WE DECIDE WHETHER TO WORK WITH JEN OR JENNA AS OUR PHOTOGRAPHER?

A. I know, this can be a tough choice! We have a great section on this topic on the 'About' page. Factors might include portfolio, budget, or availability. But rest assured - no matter who you work with, you will experience the same un-compromising service as all Jen Philips Photography couples. Jen is the creator of our studio and her philosophy is the driving force behind our process. But in terms of experience, we are the same! We bring at least 13 years of wedding experience to your day, and you can relax in the knowledge that, whether working with Jen or Jenna, you will feel taken care of and confident.

Q. ARE YOU WILLING TO TRAVEL FOR OUR WEDDING?

A. Yes! We are located in town of Napa, and are available for weddings all over the wine country, Bay Area, and Northern California. We are happy to drive up to 3 hours to your wedding, and 2 hours to your small wedding or elopement location with no additional fees. 

Q. DOES MY WEDDING QUALIFY AS A ‘SMALL WEDDING’?

A. A small wedding is one with fewer guests (<30), takes place mid-week or during the off-season, and needs fewer hours of photography. If your wedding fits somewhere in between, let us know! You may only need to add a 2nd photographer to your package to ensure all the excitement is covered. Learn more about small weddings here.

Q. HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE RECeiVE?

A. A lot! Usually, that’s about 100 to 125 finished images for each hour of coverage in your package. For a full-size 8-hour wedding day you can expect to receive about 800-1000 images (or even a bit more). Your images will be delivered to you within about 3 weeks through a gorgeous online gallery that let's you share your images and order prints with ease.

A. It has yet to happen to us in over 400 weddings so far (knock on wood!), but if an emergency happens which prevents your photographer from capturing your wedding, we have contingency plans. First, we can step in for each other: if, for example, Jenna is your photographer and has an emergency, Jen will capture the day is she isn't otherwise booked for the date. If that isn't possible, then we can reach out to the long list of professional colleagues in the wine country who support each other. Your wedding will be capture by an experienced professional, and the images will return to the studio for editing in our style.

A. There are so many great reasons to do an e-session! It’s a wonderful way to really celebrate who you are as a couple, right now, before you are married. A pre-wedding session can make the wedding-day easier, too – you’ll know me that much more, and you’ll know what to expect. Engagement session photos are also fun to use for invitations, save-the-dates, decor at your wedding, and lots more. But, if you've already done an engagement session, or you simply aren't interested in doing one, that's absolutely fine too. We'll make sure you feel comfortable on your wedding day no matter what - it’s what we do! Learn more here.

A. Yes! Jenna is available for stand-alone engagement sessions and surprise proposals. Jen's time is a little more limited for non-wedding sessions, but please don't hesitate to ask anyway. 

A. The 1-hour engagement session can take place at locations within ~20 miles of Napa, and the 2-hour session can be up to 50 miles from Napa. If you would like to do something even farther from our home base, no problem - there’ll just be a small additional fee to cover travel expenses.

Frequently asked

Q. What ownership will be have of our images?

A. You will have full ownership of your finished, high-resolution digital images with all the rights to download, share, print, or publish as much as you'd like. Jen Philips Photography also retains copyright co-ownership of all images, allowing us to share a few of the images we capture at your wedding for studio marketing on social media and our website. This is vital to the studio's growth, however we also respect your personal right to privacy; if you have a special concern about our use of specific images, you can absolutely request a custom privacy clause in your contract.

Q. What kind of camera/lenses/lighting do you use?

A. We shoot with all professional Canon mirrorless digital cameras and lenses that create high resolution images of at least 25 megapixels. We make use of natural light as much as possible, preferring to use the sun and natural reflective surfaces rather than flash or reflectors. At night, we use a minimal setup of on- and off-camera flashes but work to allow the natural ambiance to shine through too. 

Q. DO YOUR COLLECTIONS INCLUDE A 2ND PHOTOGRAPHER, OR that optional?

A. Our full wedding coverage always includes two photographers - weddings are simply too busy for just one photographer to capture on her own. Smaller weddings, however, might not need a 2nd photographer, and because of this our hourly coverage for elopements and small weddings includes just one photographer with the option to add a 2nd if desired.
